The chapel in Vercland

Dedicated to the Conception of Our Lady and St. Symphorian.
The chapel aroused controversy and led to legal cases opposing the villagers and the canons of the Collegiate Church in Samoëns.
The 10,000 francs paid to build the chapel represented a substantial sum and it carried with it an obligation on the part of the priest to live in the village and teach the young people.
Once shaped like a shrine and no bigger than the chancel we see today, the chapel was extended in 1751. At the beginning of the 20th century, a procession still climbed up to the chapel in August to lay corn at the altar. Today, it is also used by the Protestants since they have no church in the Upper Giffre.
